To whom it may concern,

I am writing to you concerning a charity sponsorship from your company. Myself and my friend Uaine are both students at the University of Liverpool and are looking to spend a month in India at an orphanage just outside Delhi (the Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission) who provide a safe environment for children who otherwise would not have had this. Our applications have been accepted and our dates have been selected (28th of August until the 24th of September).

We will be staying at the orphanage over the whole of September, teaching the children English, helping with ongoing projects there such as painting the children’s rooms to brighten them up and help with building, fencing or farming projects and with the daily tasks such as the washing and laundry. This is one cause of so many that need our help and although we are students and can’t provide monetary aid we can however grasp this opportunity to help them first hand, face-to-face; though I am sure they can teach us more about love and friendship than we ever could teach them.

The sort of worthwhile projects they are doing are all listed on their website with pictures. One of them being, trying to provide good sanitation as it is not the best, especially in the small boys dorm, the smell apparently entering their sleeping quarters. They do not just need money for tiles, but they need people to help: to tile and to paint. This is a solution where somebody can see where their money is going – to improve the lives for these children.

I am writing in the hope of support from your company in relation to this. We need £360 for the flights and £9 a day once there for their shelter and food) Not only that, myself and my friend are currently collecting things to take over for the children, items that they rarely get like shampoo, hair accessories, pencils and felt tips – the money to fund these purchases coming from selling handmade cards, made by ourselves, so far raising £100 for extras.

If you chose to help us fund our volunteering for this month in september (and hopefully we will be able to make a donation once there along with our labour), on our return we will send you a video and stories and show you first hand where your sponsorship went.

Please contact us via post or e-mail even if it is to decline so we know how much more fundraising is needed,

If you feel you need any more information feel free to contact us at b.mcinerney@student.liverpool.ac.uk or look on the website at www.indianorphanage.com

Thank you for your time,
